DR YUSSUF DESAI
Dr Yussuf Desai obtained his medical degree from the University of the Witwatersrand. After initially spending time in both Urology and General Surgery, he realized his true passion and specialized as an Orthopaedic Surgeon.
His Spinal Surgery rotations during his Orthopaedic training sparked a keen interest in the discipline and he moved to Cape Town to complete an internationally recognized Spine Fellowship (IGASS).
Dr Desai is a senior specialist at Tygerberg Hospital’s Orthopaedic Spinal Surgery Department. He is experienced in degenerative spinal pathology and trauma, as well as infections and tumour surgery.
He is firmly committed to academics and teaching and serves as a full-time lecturer for both undergraduate and postgraduate training at Stellenbosch University. Dr. Desai also contributes to the Stellenbosch University Spine Fellowship program at Tygerberg Hospital, assisting in the development of South Africa’s future spinal surgeons. He is an examiner for the Colleges of Medicine South Africa and reviews for the South African Orthopaedic Journal.
He has a keen interest in Minimally Invasive and Endoscopic Spinal Surgery and has attended several international courses with certification to perform these cutting-edge procedures.
Dr. Desai looks to provide quality, evidence-based spinal care to his patients to ensure a healthy, pain-free quality of life.
