Andrea embarked on her medical career at the age of 17. She completed her undergraduate training at Stellenbosch University. She spent some time at the provincial hospitals in the Western Cape, Northern Cape and Free State before moving back to Cape Town to complete her postgraduate studies. She obtained her fellowship from the College of Anaesthetists (FCA) and her Masters in Medicine (Mmed) in Anaesthesiology and Critical care from Stellenbosch University in 2020. Andrea remained as a specialist anaesthetist at Tygerberg Hospital with shared clinical responsibilities in anaesthesia and the surgical intensive care unit, before moving into full time private practice.
Andrea pursued a short course in global health and is currently in the process of obtaining her Master’s in Business Administration (MBA) in healthcare leadership from the Stellenbosch University Business School. Beyond that, Andrea serves on the South African society of anaesthesiologists private practice business unit (SASA PPBU), has presented anaesthesia related topics on a national and international platform and has a special place in her heart for the education and training of anaesthetic nurses.
In her spare time she partakes in Ballroom and Latin American dancing competitions and loves spending time with her husband and 5 kids (three of which are furry).
“I love anaesthesia and every day is an absolute blessing to be able to do the work I do. Every patient becomes family. I do for my patients what I would want done for myself, husband, kids, mom, dad, grandma or -pa.” ~Andrea Jacobs
“Once you choose hope, anything is possible”.
